THe Marthaguy Project was delivered to provide a modern, cost-effective
water control solution for the Marthaguy Irrigation Scheme.
Designed around the needs of local irrigators, the project combined new precast infrastructure, automation technology and telemetry to create a safer, more efficient and future-ready irrigation system that can be managed remotely.
The challenge
The project required a commercially viable solution that could be designed, manufactured and installed within a tight winter shutdown period. The infrastructure needed to accurately regulate top water, provide the ability to drain channels when required and be fully automation-ready for irrigators who could not justify travelling long distances to manually operate water control structures.
Padman’s Involvement
Marthaguy was a true whole-of-business project involving Padman Water Solutions, Padman Automation, engineering, manufacturing, logistics, project management and installation support.
Close collaboration between departments ensured the project delivered a practical, cost-effective solution while integrating the latest automation and telemetry technologies.
Design & Development
The project involved approximately nine months of planning, design development and stakeholder consultation. Multiple design iterations were completed to balance performance, automation capability and project cost.
Following installation, the project included commissioning, calibration of automation systems and operator training to ensure the infrastructure delivered the intended outcomes from day one.
INSTALLATION
Construction was completed during a limited three-month winter works window. Onsite installation was completed in approximately two weeks, with only minor weather interruptions.
Detailed planning and coordination between the Padman team and local stakeholders ensured the installation progressed smoothly and was fully operational for the following irrigation season.

PROJECT OUTCOMES
The Marthaguy Project delivered modern water control infrastructure that is safer, more accurate and significantly more efficient to operate.
Irrigators can now remotely monitor and adjust water flows through the Padman App, reducing travel requirements while maintaining confidence that adjustments have been completed correctly. The system provides precise flow regulation, channel draining capability when required and greatly improved operational flexibility.
The upgraded infrastructure has transformed ageing water control assets into a modern, automation-ready system that supports the long-term needs of the irrigation scheme.
